How To: Install Opera Mobile on Nokia N9

Nokia N9 already has a built-in internet browser. It’s not the best, but it works. I like having some browsers for my Nokia N9, and currently I have Firefox Mobile and Opera Mobile installed. Both browsers (Firefox Mobile and Opera Mobile) are not available from Ovi Store. If you’re using Symbian for your Nokia, you can download Opera Mini. Firefox is not yet supported.
I’m not considering the installation process as something difficult. Yes, it’s not like the regular installation procedures. It’s my first-time experience too. So far, everything works without any issue at the moment. For Opera Mobile installation, I just follow the installation tutorial from Nokia N9 Fans Club. It’s an unofficial site, not maintained by Nokia.

Now, let me share a bit about how I installed Opera Mobile. Anyway, my N9 is running MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan with software version PR1.1 (20.2011.40-2_PR_005). And, if you’re not familiar with command line, you can continue reading.

Opera Mini 5 beta and Screenshots

I just downloaded Opera Mini 5 beta for my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. This new version of Opera Mini offers many new features like Speed Dial, Tabbed browsing, Password Manager, and much more. I think, “Tabbed browsing” feature is a super feature — with other new features, of course. If you want to download, you can go directly to m.opera.com/next/ from your phone web browser, or download it to computer first. Anyway, I still keep my Opera Mini 4 installed. So far, I’m happy with this new Opera Mini 5!
Here are some screenshots (click to enlarge):

You are using an incompatible web browser, Facebook said

facebook-browsers

I almost have no problems accessing Facebook site using many different browsers. But, I sometime I found problems when using Opera 10 browser. It says that I’m using incompatible web browser. But, it only happens randomly, even when I do the same actions like reloading pages, clicking on the links. And so far, it only happens on Facebook-related pages.

The error page suggests me to use these browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Flock. I do using Opera, but not the latest stable release. So, is it Facebook? Or, Opera 10 doesn’t play nice with Facebook yet? I’m using Opera Version 10.00 1 Build 1355 on Windows XP when I experience this problem.

Web Browsers' Homepage Designs

I only visit web browsers’ sites when I want to download — sometime, I don’t even have to go to their sites to get updates — or, only when someone/something refers me to an address in those sites. Those are some possibilities. Their websites have beautiful designs, and sometime can be a great inspiration. :)

So, here are some screenshots. I like their designs as inspirations. Not in a particular order:

Opera Turbo for faster browsing experience

opera_turbo_saving
Today, Opera Software released Opera Turbo. It’s a server-side optimization and compression technology that provides significant improvements in browsing speeds over limited-bandwidth connections by compressing network traffic.
I downloaded and installed it right away. When I installed it — on Windows platform, it’s identified as Opera/10.00 (Windows NT 5.1; U; Edition Turbo; en) Presto/2.2.0. I already had Opera 9.64. I do not have to overide my current installation. So, there are two version of Opera browsers now.
Using this Opera Turbo, we can cut the cost of browsing when we are on a pay per usage plan. It will compress the website contents so we will download a smaller page size. It’s available for testing right now and will be available as part of Opera Desktop versions. Interested? You can download it right away.

WordPress Troubleshooting: WordPress Admin Area (Dashboard) Redirect Loop

Yesterday, I helped one of my clients with her WordPress-powered blogs. When I tried to find the solution — using search engines — I could not find any exact solution.
Problem overview
Okey, here’s the problem: When I tried to login to WordPress dashboard — not WordPress.com, but self-hosted — I always got these errors:

Redirect Loop
The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.
The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

  • Have you disabled or blocked cookies required by this site?
  • NOTE: If accepting the site’s cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer.

I’m not sure what caused this problem. I thought it was my browser (Firefox), but I got the same problem on other browsers.

Opera 9.6

I just upgraded my Opera to the latest version, Opera 9.6. Read the changelog for details. Here are some highlights:

  • Opera Link — any website address you typed in one computer will be available in all your other computers.
  • Feed Preview — we can see feed content before subscribing to it.
  • Speed Enhancement — I like Opera because of its speed, it is said that this release is faster than before.
  • and more.

Also, now Opera is also available in Bahasa Indonesia. Go to Yeni’s blog for details. Of course, the language files still need improvements. But, it’s a good start. Go to Opera website to download.

Pushup: Encourage others to upgrade their browsers

I just added some Javascript file and CSS in this blog. You probably will notice them, or not. You will not see something different in this page if you’re using an updated internet browser. But, if you’re still using old browsers, you should see a notification — it’s on the upper right of the browser window — telling you about your browser status (updated or outdated).
Pushup : Pushing up the web
Anyway, I got this from Pushup campaign.

Pushup is an effort to push the web forward by helping users upgrade their outdated browsers. Give your users a better web experience today by installing Pushup on your domain! A subtle upgrade link is shown when people visit your website using an outdated browser. They can click this link to visit the upgrade website for that browser, or choose to be reminded after a time you specify.

The installation (adding Javascript and CSS) is easy. Go to Pushup website, and you will get everything you need to get it installed in your website/blog. Demo is also available there. Anyway, remember Browse Happy?
