Jogja Java Carnival

Jogja Java Carnival.

Kecewa? Mungkin iya.

Airport Scanners Will Show Genitals (Australia)

A new security scanner being tested in Australia can see through clothing and is being described as a “virtual strip search.”

What’s what the news said (via BuzzFeed). It’s on trial in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide airports from this month.
From to AOL Australia:

“It does see through clothing, but it’s not a photographic image, it’s a low-energy X-ray that reflects off the skin,” said Cheryl Johnson, general manager of the Office of Transport Security.
“It will show the private parts of people, but what we’ve decided is that we’re not going to blur those out, because it severely limits the detection capabilities. It is possible to see genitals and breasts while they’re going through the machine, though.”
“The faces are automatically blurred and … it’s only a chalk-style outline, it’s not as invasive as some of the other equipment that we’ve got,” she said.

WordPress Troubleshooting: WordPress Admin Area (Dashboard) Redirect Loop

Yesterday, I helped one of my clients with her WordPress-powered blogs. When I tried to find the solution — using search engines — I could not find any exact solution.
Problem overview
Okey, here’s the problem: When I tried to login to WordPress dashboard — not WordPress.com, but self-hosted — I always got these errors:

Redirect Loop
The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.
The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

  • Have you disabled or blocked cookies required by this site?
  • NOTE: If accepting the site’s cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer.

I’m not sure what caused this problem. I thought it was my browser (Firefox), but I got the same problem on other browsers.

IDrive for Data Backup Solution

Today, I tried a service called IDrive. It’s an online backup service. Why I need this? The reason is simple: I want to keep my data, just to make sure that I have backup for important files. IDrive data provides many options to choose. For example, if I only need less than 2 GB of backup storage, I can get if for free. But, if 2 GB is not enough, I can upgrade it easily. For example, I can get 150 GB for personal use only for USD 49.50. Or, if I want to subscribe monthly, I only need to pay USD 4.95. Just do the math. :)
To make my computer “connected” to IDrive server, I only need to download IDrive software. Currently, it support Windows and Mac. So, after I have a registered account, I download and install the software. Run the software, fill in the account info and voila! I’m connected. Now, I want to prove whether the backup and restore process is easy or not.

Dropbox might be your solution for file-sharing need

Today, I just registered and use a newly open-for-public file-sharing service called Dropbox. That’s right, Dropbox just launched for public few days ago. The first impression: I think I will LOVE it. Here are few features why I think it might be great solution — for me, and I hope for you too. :)
It’s free. But here, free does not mean unlimited. All free account can have up to 2 GB of storage. If you think it’s not enough, other ‘package’ will be available: 50GB for only $9.99/month, or $99.99/year.
Rich of features, but easy to use. I think its design got my attention when I visited the site for the first time. It’s simple and has an easy-to-understand navigation. Some interesting features:

  • Sync contents between your PC with your Dropbox account. But, before you can use all features, you need Dropbox client installed on your computer. The good thing is that its client is available for many platforms: Windows, Linux and also Mac. Anyway, if you visit Dropbox site, you will not see the registration page because the registration is done from the client software. I’ve tried it using Windows XP Home SP2, and it works without any problems.
  • A box for multiple computers. This is good especially if you work on different computers.
  • Access our files anywhere. If we do not have Dropbox client installed, we can access our files using web-based interface. We can also upload new files.
  • Better file management. We can create folders/directories, and set the permission for each files. It means, we can share a file with other friends using a “public” URL.

Interesting? Try it.

LiveJournal.com: Invite codes are GONE!

Well, good news? For those who want to have a LiveJournal account for free? I think so. Now, you can sign up for FREE.
Me? Well, I just registered. Just want to know LiveJournal interface. Yeah… why not? I want to see it. But, until now… I like to have a weblog hosted on my own hosting. Have it installed, and do some modifications.

Updated
Well, I want to stressed on this sentence. It’s all about two spaces. Arghh… bang my head.

I have post a thread at pMachine Forum. And Brent C. Wilson (Thanks Brent!) answered that thread. I did exactly what was instructed there… but. It doesn’t work.

And, Brent sent me an email, asked me to show him my weblog.fns.php. He gave me an instruction, I tried it. Not working. Send email again, telling that I did it backward. Woops… sorry. He gave me the right way to do it (again! Thank you Brent! Thank you so much for your patience). And.. still not.

Finally, he told me the magic sentence,“You have two spaces between the number of comments and the word “comments.” So try replacing “1 comments” and “0 comments” with “1 comments” and “0 comments” (here, I had two spaces after the comment total number). Or change your templates to eliminate the extra space.”

Nice catch! After fixing that, VIOLA! It works! Yes, it works! Once again, big thanks to Brent!

Now, when there is no comment, the comment link text will be “No comments posted”, when there is only a comment, it will display “One comment”. Fiewh… a problem solved. Remember Thomas, just because of another extra space. One space, not two…
Woops.. it’s almost 1 AM here, time to sleep now… fiewh!
