Ulasan Apple iPhone 5

Minggu lalu, saya berkesempatan untuk memiliki iPhone 5. Seminggu terakhir ini, saya mecoba untuk selalu menggunakan 5 dalam aktivitas sehari-hari, menggantikan milik saya sebelumnya. Dan, saatnya menuliskan sedikit ulasan mengenai iPhone 5 ini. Oh ya, ulasan ini merupakan pendapat pribadi saya, sebagai salah satu pengguna produk — disamping beberapa produk lain yang saya punya/gunakan akhir-akhir ini (iPhone 4, New , 800, HTC Desire HD, dan 9860).

Boks

Paket penjualan dalam kardus iPhone 5 cukup standar. Dikemas dalam sebuah kardus yang mirip dengan iPhone 4, cuma dengan ukuran yang sedikit lebih besar. Lalu, apa saja isi dalam kardus paket penjualan ini?

  • Sebuah iPhone 5 — yang saya miliki adalah sebuah iPhone 5 berwarna hitam, dengan kapasitas 16GB.
  • Apple EarPods
  • Adaptor dan kabel Lightning to USB.
  • Buku panduan

Kesan yang saya dapatkan ketika memegang iPhone 5 untuk pertama kali adalah bahwa iPhone 5 ini lebih terasa lebih enteng (dibandingkan iPhone 4 yang biasa saya pakai). Walaupun diklaim memiliki berat 20% lebih ringan (sekitar 112 gram), tapi tidak terasa terlalu enteng. Cukup ringan, tapi saya masih mendapatkan kesan yang kokoh dan padat.

Readmill: Another reading experience

One of the reasons I bought an this year was that about . I have to admit that my reading habit has changed in the last few months. I read more books and magazines on my iPad. But, it does not mean that I don't read real books. It's easy to mentioned two last books I bought: Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs and Listomania.
But, I bought more digital books. I subscribed to National Geographics Magazine for iPad, and purchased some other books directly from iBook Store. I have some editions from A Book Apart and Smashing Magazines, too. My reading experience has been shifted.
Readmill
Recently, I moved some of my books to Readmill. iBooks and share the similar reading experience. But, after using it for few days, I think I'm falling in love with Readmill. I like the idea that it's not only about reading. I like its social , and I love the way the is designed.

In short, it happens like this:

  • Buy some books, and you usually you will get them in some formats like PDF or ePub.
  • You can easily open them using iBook app (on your devices). If you're using Readmill, you upload them to your Readmill's Library.
  • Start reading.

While you're reading, you can take notes, highlights. Readmill has a nice approach about the reading behaviours. Readers can interact each others by sharing highlights. Try to visit a book profile called “Designing for Emotion” by Aaron Walter.

But, what about the reading experience itself? On my iPad, I have a pleasant reading experience. Readmill app offers a simple and key features readers really need: adding highlights, bookmarks, etc. And, not to forget its social features, they're just great.

Kue Putu

Saya lupa kapan tepatnya saya pertama kali makan kue putu. Jajanan yang menurut saya sederhana ini menang enak. Sewaktu saya kecil — mungkin saat masih SD — salah satu penjual kue putu yang saya ingat ada di pinggir jalan, sebelah sisi timur Alun-alun Utara .

Penjualnya seorang ibu, dengan penerangan lampu minyak. Bukan gerobak, bukan kios. Seingat saya, hanya sebuah meja kecil dan kursi kecil. Putu disajikan dengan dibungkus daun pisang dan kertas koran. Harganya? Saya lupa.

Ah, sepotong ingatan masa kecil yang tiba-tiba muncul ketika tadi sore membeli jajanan yang dijual secara berkeliling lewat rumah. Bukan kali pertama sebenarnya. Hampir setiap hari sekitar pukul empat sampai lima sore, seorang bapak berjualan kue putu berkeliling dengan menggunakan sepeda. Ketika mendekati rumah, suara yang muncul dari uap air untuk memasak kue ini mulai terdengar.

Sepotong kue putu ini dijual dengan harga Rp. 500,-. Murah atau mahal, itu relatif. Tapi, bagi saya yang lebih penting adalah sebuah jajanan yang enak, dan mungkin itu sebuah kemewahan.

Dan, mungkin lebih penting lagi adalah bahwa putu ada yang beli. Karena ada yang beli, berarti menambah alasan lagi bagi penjualnya untuk tetap berjualan.

Setelah menunggu beberapa saat, putu-pun matang. Masih dengan selongsong bambu dan putu didorong keluar dengan potongan kayu. Satu demi satu tersaji diatas piring. Dua belas potong yang saya dapatkan sore itu untuk harga Rp. 5.000,-

Dan, tentu saja dilanjutkan dengan ditaburi dengan parutan kelapa dan gula pasir. Oh ya, dulu taburan gula adalah gula bubuk. Dan, untuk yang saya beli ini, masih gula pasir biasa. Pasti masih ada pula yang memakai gula bubuk. Mungkin.

Langsung dimakan sudah enak. Irisan gula Jawa diantara tepung beras menawarkan rasa  manis dan sedikit asin. Gurih. Disajikan dengan teh hangat tidak terlalu manis, atau dengan kopi di sore hari tentu lebih nikmat.

Sample Photos: Here are picplz filters in action

Instagram got its popularity these days. It's exclussively available only for , , and iPod touch users. Just to remind you, Instagram got its 150,000,000 photos uploaded to the service last August. Also, made Instagram as one of the Klout score factors.
There are some similar services offer what Instagram offers, for example Streamzoo, Shnap and picplz. They might not exactly the same, but they share some similar features. I use Instagram as my primary photography activity. I'm still using Flickr anyway and even Instagram — has this feature too — offers direct upload to Flickr, I decided not to use it.
As I said earlier, I use Instagram. I've tried picplz too. You probably love the way how you edit your photos using filters provided by Instagram, or picplz. picplz offers some filters and I think they're great. I want to show you some picplz filters in action here. And, these are some basic information about technical condition:

  • Taken using (using 5)
  • I use picplz (Version 1.7.1) for iPhone

In this following photos (with filters), I use a taken using iPhone 4 without any editing. Here's the original photo.

Before sending a photo to picplz, you can manipulate it with some filters like “Russian Toy Camera”, “The 70s”, “Little Plastic Lens”, “High Contrast Monochrome”, and more. When I tested, there are 17 different filters. Most of them are just another filter variations, by having “border” and “no border” filters. Of course, you can send your photos edited by external photo editing applications on your phone and send it to picplz.
I only did some basic actions:

  •  Import photo from Camera Roll to picplz
  • Apply a filter
  • Send it directly to picplz (and to Flickr so that I can embed it to this article)
  • Photos sent in “Highest quality” setting

Flickr for iPhone: Timestamp problem?

I am not sure when this kind of problem appeared for the first time. Not exactly a big problem, but something that does not work well. I'm now using Flickr for iPhone Version 1.4.2 on 4 (Software Version: 4.3.5), and so far the primary feature — I consider upload feature as primary feature here — works well. At least, it helps me a lot to upload photos taken using my iPhone directly to Flickr.
I know, there are some other methods that I use like transferring photos using Capture or iPhoto to my and upload them using Flickr Uploadr. I almost never use -to- feature.
Okey, back to the problem.
When I go to “Activity” tab, I see that there are some activities on uploaded photos (new comments, favorited, and added to gallery by other users). But, there is a single activity that should not be there. The latest activity should be on the top — and I think this is what Flickr (for iPhone) exactly want to have. You can see “655 days ago” there. It is a valid activity, and I've checked from the web .
So, I tweeted about this small issue. I'm not sure how many other Flickr users out there who have the same issue. Karen Yeo (Hi Karen!) came with an idea to re-authorize the application. I did it, but I think I need to be more patient to have it fixed. Is it an issue on the ? Not sure.
I'll wait.

I'm still curious. I'm now with 5 now. So, I just tried a different approach to see how whether it solved the problem or not.
I logged in using my other and liked my own photo to see whether the “old activity” disappeared or not — considering that they're displayed by date/time. It didn't.

iTunes 10.5, iCloud, and iOS 5

I'm waiting for 5! It should be arrived today and I can't wait to it. When I watched Apple Special Event (October 2011) last week, there were many information about iOS that I want to have. It is said that there are more than 200 new features in this release.

From the video, you can see some there about the top features. It will have Notification Center, iMessage (chat between iOS users), Newsstand, Reminders, deep intergration, Camera improvement, , Game Center, Safari, and also PC Free.
And, if you want get the most from the , you should check your . The latest version of iTunes (Version 10.5) is already available now. It will also support iTunes in the Cloud.

Melihat Hong Kong

Ketika mengikuti acara Friday Movie Mania yang diadakan oleh simPATI awal bulan Juli ini, terus terang diawal saya tidak tahu banyak tentang . Bahkan, bisa dikatakan saya tidak mencoba mencari tahu tentang Hong Kong sebelum keberangkatan. Ya, paling tidak perjalanan kali ini bisa dikatakan lebih santai — terlepas dari jadwal yang sebenarnya lumayan padat. Saya menganggap lebih santai karena hal-hal terkait dengan perjalanan sudah disiapkan oleh penyelenggara.

Kesan Pertama tentang Hong Kong

Acara nonton bareng Transformers 3 yang menjadi agenda utama diadakan di hari kedua. Agenda lain adalah mengunjungi beberapa tempat yang ada di Hong Kong, dan termasuk acara bebas yang lebih banyak dimanfaatkan untuk berjalan-jalan melihat beberapa tempat disekitar penginatap di daerah Causeway Bay.

Ketika menginjakkan kaki di Hong Kong International , kesan pertama yang saya lihat adalah Hong Kong itu tertib dan bersih. Arsitektur misalnya. Walaupun waktu itu bandara sudah cukup sepi, tapi saya merasakah kesan yang nyaman. Lampu masih menyala dengan cukup terang, tidak terkesan suram.

Saya perokok, dan melihat tanda larangan merokok — termasuk denda larangan merokok sempat membuat nyali ciut juga.

Ya, 5.000 Hong Kong Dollar (sekitar 5,5 juta rupiah) adalah denda maksimum yang akan dihadiahkan untuk pelanggar aturan ini. Saya tidak mencari info lebih lanjut tentang ini. Pokoknya, jangan merokok sembarangan. Dan, satu hal yang lebih penting: saya tidak berkeinginan untuk mencobai mekanisme membayar denda. :D

Perjalanan ke Hong Kong

Perjalanan ke Hong Kong dimulai dari Soekarno-Hatta, , tepatnya dari Terminal 2E. Saya sudah kenal dengan beberapa orang yang ikut dalam rombongan, tapi lebih banyak yang belum kenal. Jadi kesempatan ini juga sekaligus menambah kenalan baru. Setelah mendapatkan informasi singkat tentang keberangkatan, akhirnya rombongan bergerak menuju ke ruang tunggu bandara.

‘Itu Masih Mahal…”, katanya

Minggu lalu, sewaktu dalam perjalanan ke rumah teman saya Opi dan suaminya, kami mampir ke sebuah swalayan yang cukup besar untuk sekadar membeli beberapa makanan dan belanjaan kecil. Ketika turun dari mobil, kebetulan di area parkir sedang ada beberapa kios dadakan dan salah satunya adalah penjual furnitur.

Kebetulan memang beberapa waktu ini saya sedang memikirkan untuk membeli meja. Setelah melihat sesaat, saya melihat ada sebuah meja dengan ukuran yang cukup besar — dan sesuai yang saya cari. Kurang tahu juga apakah gerai jualan itu menjual produk dari beberapa produsen. Tapi saya melihat dengan jelas bahwa disitu ada tulisan OLYMPIC. Apakah itu memang dari OLYMPIC atau memang semacam orang umum yang sedang ikut berjualan.

Terus terang saja, ada keinginan untuk beli — walaupun karena alasan kepraktisan, saya mungkin akan membeli di tempat lain. Nah, karena agak penasaran dengan harganya, saya coba bertanya kepada salah satu penjaga gerai tersebut.

Saya: “Mbak, yang meja ini harganya berapa?”
Penjaga: “Itu masih mahal, Mas…”

Cukup akrab dengan percakapan yang kurang lebih seperti diatas? Hei! Itu bukan jawaban yang saya harapkan! Saya masih sangat sadar bahwa saya bertanya dengan cukup sopan. Tidak butuh waktu lama bagi saya untuk segera meninggalkan tempat itu. Terus terang saya kesal. Huh!

Ini memang bukan kali pertama saya mengalami hal seperti ini. Tapi, mungkin memang tampang saya memang tampang tidak punya duit. Hehehe… Mungkin lain kali, saya akan layani perlakukan semacam ini dengan cara yang lebih asyik deh…

Videoblog. Again.

With my friend, I decided to create a new . Previously, I had one at , but since I was busy and almost had no time to maintain it, I left the expired. Now, it has a new domain name, with a new . I will not talk about technology or other geeky stuff. If you like technology, you should visit Webicara, Notsogeeky, or Macindos.TV. Our new videoblog will focus on daily life.
Right now, almost all videos take as the object. But, for me personally, I see many interesting stuff here in Jakarta — I've been staying in this city for almost three months. Last month, we went to Kalibata and Pasar Minggu. Not only to have durian, but also witnessing another area in Jakarta, at night. Not really at night, but can I say early in the morning?
What makes this videoblog different — from my previos one — is that I do it with a partner. He's a good friend of mine since high school. The other important thing is that we share a same concept and understanding. It makes the videoblogging process easier. We do this videoblog mostly on weekend since we're both working.
Anyway, the videoblog is using dadio.tv as its domain name. And we put our videos on YouTube. What does it mean? It might be meaningless in English, or in Indonesian language. But, you understand Javanese language, you'll get the meaning. Yeah, it's not a , anyway. :D Okey, there are already some videos to watch. We have some videos on the about Betawi culture, food and also train (the class!).
