One reason why people avoid using Javascript or iframe is regarding the search engine optimization. Contents presented in Javascript or iframe is not good for search engine, and Google is one of them. But, recently, there is an update from Google about how Google indexes contents presented using these ways (using AJAX/iframe).
Google’s Matt Cutts confirmed:
Amit Agarwal (Labnol.org) has some an example about how Google indexing Facebook Comments at Techcrunch. Facebook Comments is an example. There are some other commenting services like Disqus (I use Disqus for my blog) or Intense Debate. Great.

Now, this blog is using DISQUS
I decided to switch the commenting system for this blog, from WordPress’ built-in commenting system feature to DISQUS. I was not sure which hosted service I wanted to use — DISQUS and Intense Debate came into consideration. Here are some reasons why I use external commenting system service right now:
- DISQUS provides integration with other services like Twitter, Facebook and also OpenID. This features can be activated on WordPress-powered blogs using plugins. But, if DISQUS already has this feature, why not?
- DISQUS also offers spam filter mechanism. I’m tired of spam. Akismet and TypePad Antispam plugin did a great job. Right now, I rely on DISQUS spam filter. And I have Akismet activated also.
- I’m happy with how DISQUS display blog comments. Options can be managed directly from the dashboard.
The migration process was easy. It took less than 30 minutes to import all my comments (there were around 3,100 comments), and I got zero problem. It just worked.

Douglas Bowman's Farewell Post
I like reading Douglas Bowman’s farewell post. He left Google after three years. Here’s a paragraph:
Yes, it’s true that a team at Google couldn’t decide between two blues, so they’re testing 41 shades between each blue to see which one performs better. I had a recent debate over whether a border should be 3, 4 or 5 pixels wide, and was asked to prove my case. I can’t operate in an environment like that. I’ve grown tired of debating such minuscule design decisions. There are more exciting design problems in this world to tackle.

This is, I believe, why Google’s products (many of which are great and innovative–I remain a devoted Gmail fan, for example) will always fall short of achieving the emotional connection that people feel to an iPhone. There’s no one with real power there who has a good sense of what makes a product beautiful or when it feels “electric.” You can’t quantify that sort of thing through study or harness collective brainpower to coerce it–someone just has to know it when they see it.
