San Alfonso Del Mar, World's Largest Swimming Pool

Okey, here is an info for you who like swimming. I know, some of you probably have heard about this. If you want to know about the largest swimming pool in the world, the answer will be clear now. It’s in the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile. The Guinness Book of Records named this pool as the biggest swimming pool in the world.
Let’s compare it with the previously-biggest swimming pool, the Orthlieb (also known as Big Splash) in Morocco. It’s ‘only’ 150 yards long and 100 yards wide.
Let’s take a look some number and statistics about this pool:

  • 1,013 m (3,324 ft) long
  • It covers 20 acres (about 8 ha)
  • It’s completed in December 2006.
  • It holds about 66 million gallons (250,000 m3) of water
  • It costs an estimated US$3.5 million ($1.74 billion) to build and about US$4m per year in maintenance(source).
