I decided not to use it.
I’m using about.me service to create my personal splash page. You can see mine at about.me/thomasarie. It looks good, and very useful to display multiple online profiles like Twitter, Facebook, or even Instagram. Everything works great.
Few days ago, about.me users received an email informing about an offer to get more personalized email address. Yes, another mail service! Last May, Nokia did the same step by powering its mail service called Ovi Mail using Yahoo! Mail features. Since about.me is now part of AOL family, you will get AOL Mail-powered email. Just a reminder: AOL bought about.me back in December 2010.
I claimed my email address. Yes, I have now thomasarie [at] about.me, powered by AOL. If you want to get yours, authenticate yourself at about.me website, and you should see “Offer” menu under “Dashboard” menu on the top navigation.
The setup was easy. You only need to give your date of birth information. I use Google Mail — Google Apps for domain — as my primary email service right now. I also keep my Yahoo! Mail account checked on regular basis. They offer a good service until today. AOL Mail did offers some features, but I haven’t found any features other mail services don’t have. So, I decided not to use it. If you send your email to thomasarie [at] about.me, it will go to my inbox. But, I’m not sure whether I check it regularly or not.
And, this is how the the email frontpage looks like. Sorry, I just need ’email’.
Month: September 2011
I don’t use Foursqure on daily basis. If you want to have Foursquare in Bahasa Indonesia, it’s now available in Bahasa Indonesia. Foursquare team announced about some new languages for the application interface:
Today, with the launch of five more languages (Bahasa Indonesian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Thai), we’re excited to announce that over 1,500,000,000 people now have access to foursquare in their mother tongue. These five new languages represent some of our fastest growing areas internationally.
If you’re using Foursquare on your iPhone, Android or BlackBerry, you can have the new languages by upgrading the applications. Also, you can have Foursquare website in more languages, including Bahasa Indonesia. Look at the language menu on the bottom page to change the language interface.
This is a good addition, and the language for the application depends on your phone settings. If you want to use Bahasa Indonesia, you need to go to your phone settings, and change your phone language.
Anyway, Twitter also made Bahasa Indonesia available for its users a month ago.
I like taking photos using my iPhone 4 and send them to Instagram. At the same time, I also like Flickr. iPhone 4, Nokia N8, and Flickr should be a great combination. Both Instagram and Flickr have their good and bad. And, I think both services can not be compared. Each service has its own medium and audiences, including the way how contents delivered to its users.
Posting to Instagram is super easy. If you use it, you know what I mean. It also has filters. There are some good photography applications to edit or manipulate photos available for download at App Store. Everything looks perfect. But, I decide not to post my photos sent to Instagram to Flickr stream automatically. Yes, it’s a very easy process and I don’t do it. Why? Here are my personal three main reasons:
1. It’s not big enough
When a photo posted to Instagram, it will be posted in multiple sizes. They are Thumbnail (150×150), Medium (306×306), and Large (612×612). Even I can post the large photo, it’s not big enough for me. I want to have my photos on Flickr as my personal photography archive too. By uploading manually to Flickr — from desktop or directly using application like Flickr for iPhone I can bigger photo, even the original photo size — taken using my iPhone.
